Twitter Users- A Passion for Doing
22 03 2008Twitter users act more like a community than any other online community of which I am apart. When new users meet each other in person they almost instantly follow each other. They attend meet ups, breakfasts, and pub crawls. And the common thread holding them together is their use of Twitter.
What’s strange about that is Twitter, at first glance, is just a space for thinking and responding in public. There is no “message” implicit in the 140 characters, it just so happened that many of Twitter’s members share political and social ideas: (Creative Commons, Obama, Apple, Blogging, Wired, Geek&Proud..)
When I think of what holds other communities together, it’s often a passion for doing similar things: whether it’s riding Harley’s, watching a great dog race or drinking wine. With Twitter the common passion is sharing what you’re doing, regardless of what “doing,” is.
