Word Noose
20 01 2008A line that Langston Hughes wrote hit me hard today. “Hang yourself, poet, in your own words. Otherwise, you are dead.”
I understood this to mean that you are deeply connected to the world about which you are writing. And by acknowledging the ways in which you are flawed you are freeing yourself as well.
It made me think of bloggers who criticize traditional media and sometimes by accepting advertising begin to behave like the establishments they criticize.
Or political systems.
Or small businesses that grow large and behave badly.

awesome, awesome quote.
